Job Summary

As a Graduate Trainee - Conservation Outreach and Citizen Science, the successful candidate will support the team in implementing volunteer programmes, citizen science projects, school outreach activities, and educational resources that contribute to the conservation portfolio and align with organizational goals. They will be responsible for leading and supporting inspirational, relevant, science-based activities and adapt them for different audiences, particularly youth-focused approaches.

They will take ownership the event hosting support with logistics, event planning, community management, marketing, and communications, as well as the development of research and conservation products, taking part in field survey, and developing biodiversity guidebooks, and educational materials. They will be expected to be able to lead our community to achieve measurable transformative impact at scale.

They will work closely with other team members to ensure smooth operations and successful results.

They will drive participants and volunteers towards action whilst ensuring full compliance with the policies and procedures of the organization.

Background

Emirates Nature (EN) is a UAE environmental charity and non-governmental organization, established under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s representative in the Western Region and Chairman of Environmental Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD).

EN works in association with WWF, one of the world’s largest and most respected independent conservation organizations. EN-WWF has been active in the UAE since 2001 and has successfully initiated and implemented several conservation and education projects and initiatives in the region.

EN-WWF works federally and in the region with offices in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Fujairah and is governed by a local board of directors. It is our organizational objective to ensure a high performing workforce within our offices with highly efficient, skilled members all of whom will be unilaterally focused on supporting and delivering conservation activities within the UAE and our stakeholders.

The organization is functional by a Ministerial Decree as a ‘society’ institutionalized by the Ministry of Community Development, a federal governmental entity that resides within the UAE. In as such, this organization’s operational laws and workings coincides with that as a governmental institution that falls within any Abu Dhabi Government’s entities.

Major Duties and Key Responsibilities

  • Support the vision for transformative community engagement for conservation impact. Drive communities of action.
  • Successful delivery of activities in accordance with the detailed activity plans and citizen science protocol.
  • Participate in scientific surveys and research, providing feedback and insights. Ensure accurate data collection and adherence to protocols.
  • Support with school outreach activities and communications, organising trips and program participation. Support the execution of the school trip booking communication plan and handle related enquiries from schools.
  • Contribute to admin tasks, volunteer correspondence, field-work planning and permit applications.
  • Effectively train, mentor and supervise volunteers to assist in advocacy and contribution to citizen science.
  • Collaborate with the communications and marketing team to develop content relating to the events and reporting back to the community.
  • Support capacity building internally and externally around citizen science. Ensure accurate data collection, management and adherence to protocol, compile and report on citizen science data.
  • Ensure that strict Health and Safety standards are adhered to & oversee risk management at events.
  • Contribute to impact reporting and M&E.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship and foster collaboration with strategic partners and ensure that there is effective coordination of all activities in support of joint objectives.
  • Support with enquiry handling and communications with the community. Support with volunteer engagement, rewards, and building communities of action.
  • Report on volunteer satisfaction and community insights as well as brand sentiment for adaptive management & contribute to impact reporting and M&E for membership products.
  • Represent ENWWF externally.

  • Pre - and post - event documents, field reports, supporting documents and volunteer feedback.
  • Progress and feedback reports to LM and team.

  • H&S standards maintained throughout events.
  • Research-grade data collection.
  • Feedback from stakeholders volunteer satisfaction and timely enquiry handling.
  • Support material for communication of outreach activities and citizen science programmes.
  • Appropriate and timely social media content and live reporting.

Requirements

  • Experience and background in environmental sustainability, ecology, nature conservation or similar.
  • Interest and knowledge of local biodiversity and it’s conservation.
  • Experience with organising events, citizen science, field volunteering, admin support and customer service.
  • Data literate and reliable with accuracy of data.

Education:

  • Postgraduate/ Graduate degree in Environmental Science, Ecology or relevant field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic is highly desirable.
